Goochland is about 40 miles northwest of Richmond. It's

History
Goochland history spans four centuries, and can be traced back to 1749 when the Virginia colonial government decided to divide its eight shires into counties. One of these counties became what is now known as Goochland when the Virginia colonial government decided to name one of the counties after Sir William Gooch.
The county quickly became famous for its tobacco plantations that featured beautiful and historical Virginia Tidewater architecture designs. Many of these homes were used as headquarters for British troops during the American Revolution.
Goochland remained a farming community until the late 1950s when the Federal Reserve's Richmond branch opened an axillary office near what is now Goochland's West Lake Business Park. This office provide the basis for a thriving financial service industry that is now one of Goochland's largest economic sectors.
Parks and Recreation
Goochland is a lush and green area, and naturaly has great parklands and recreation areas. These include Westview on the James Campground, Hidden Rock Park and Tucker Park at Maiden's Landing. They offer amenities like picnic areas, playgrounds and walking paths. Goochland has more than 60 historical and outdoor attractions that offer something for nearly everyone's tastes. The most popular attractions include the Hermitage Country Club, the Wilton House Museum, the Ingleside Plantation Winery, the John Marshall House and Museum Complex and the Luray Cabins.
Some of the most popular events include the Field Day of the Past Family Festival, the Rassawek Spring Jubilee and the Goochland Fall Festival.
